Music
Music is a highly important part of the school. It unites us together in our faith and promotes a sense of community within the school. We believe the power of music is immense , developing the personal well being and social and emotional side of a person , plus increasing self confidence and sense of self and purpose. It provides a medium of expression and develops transferable skills which can help improve learning in other areas of the curriculum .
Music is an integral part of our curriculum. Children undergo a weekly music lesson whereby we follow the National Curriculum of Music incorporating the key concepts of performing, composing, improvising, listening and appraising. In order to learn these concepts ,children participate in a variety of exciting activities which are taught in small steps so that learning is moved from the short term memory to the long term memory. Our music curriculum enables vocabulary progression and allows children's substantive and disciplinary knowledge to increase so that they know and remember more and are able to apply what they have learnt to their independent practice and application.
We provide many opportunities for children to learn an instrument and perform . Children play instruments in their class music lessons and have the opportunity to learn with our team of highly skilled peripatetic teachers. Instruments taught range from the piano, violin, cello, flute, recorder, clarinet, cornet, trombone, guitar and drums. Children sing daily in assemblies and have the opportunity to play within the school orchestra and sing in the school choir. Children perform in our family services, Eucharists, concerts, productions, music assemblies and in outside events such as singing in the Rotherham Minster at Christmas time and in the Rotherham Music Hub 'One Voice event' .
